Today I was privileged enough to design the t-shirt for Made In the Now. The t-shirt is available for purchase from 2pm AEST 9/5/12 to 2pm AEST 10/5/12, you can then view the tshirt here.
“Made in the Now (MITN), an online t-shirt design studio and retail store, was launched in mid-2011 as a peaceful protest against some unfortunate hallmarks of the fashion industry – derivative design, mass consumption and irresponsible production.
Driven by trends of a different kind, MITN designs are produced every 24 hours and are inspired by a top of mind news story of the day. Each t-shirt features a highly collectible, covetable design and is available to purchase for 24 hours only.
As advocates of considered, masterful design, we collaborate with a pool of handpicked designers and illustrators who are dotted across the globe.
We also print all our t-shirts locally, only produce what has been ordered and use efficient, reusable packaging.
Ushering in a new wave of responsible retail, Made in the Now offers customers a dose of global news, great design and responsible production, all in one meaningful little tee.”
My topic today was that of the death of Maurice Sendak, the writer of infamous children’s book, “Where The Wild Things Are”.
As a huge fan of Sendak’s work I felt a little uneasy about paying tribute. My design aimed to pay respect to a man that’s own nature was very tongue-in-cheek. Using a quote from his book, “The King of All Wild Things” and the iconic crown his protagonist wears I hope that my little design can rekindle everyone’s memories of an amazing book written by an amazing man.
