Card

I hope everyone is having a great week! I just wanted to quickly share with you the card I designed for Eivind for yesterday. I wish I had the time/foresight to get it letterpressed, but now it will have to sit in the next-time basket!

Last night I also went to the event held by Australia INfront at the Apple store in Bondi. It was a portfolio viewing with some of the top creatives in Sydney. I was lucky enough to be in a group with Jon Christensen creative director and owner of Mentally Friendly. I learnt a lot about applying for jobs, and updating my portfolio while working for a studio and how to properly credit different people and studios which was great to learn now that I am working.

If any of you other creatives are interested I definitely recommend following Australia INfront on twitter and being involved. I’ve learnt so much in the last 2 weeks of talks and it’s free so really no reason not to!

I just came across these amazing posters by illustrator and designer Tom Whalen. They make me want to curl up and watch Disney movies! Or practice my own illustration skills.

About a month ago now I finished off the website re-design for Australian country band, Simply Bushed. They’re currently performing gigs all over most recently Tamworth. It was great to work on a website that’s category I hadn’t ever designed for before. I also designed a matching e-newsletter for the band and synchronized their social marketing to better promote their upcoming tours.

It’s been raining on and off for about the last two weeks in Sydney. Last weekend Eivind & I went and had Chinese with some friends and then spent the next day in Surry Hills, so that Leesa and I could go visit The Fabric Store.

The Fabric Store is now open and fast becoming a destination point for anyone looking for top quality designer dress fabrics.

With a strong focus on natural fibers, the range is diverse, but includes not only a great selection of quality basics, like Japanese cotton shirtings, silk chiffons and georgettes, woolen suitings and coatings, linens and satins, but also specialty pieces like New Zealand merino knits, leather hides, and much more.

Sourcing fabrics from both local and international designers as well as sampling lengths from manufacturing runs means that the stock is continually changing and is peppered with treasures that you may see one day but will be gone the next.

They are currently running a sale of 30-40% off a large range of their fabrics up until February 12, so I definitely recommend going and having a look if you’re interested. They have locations in Brisbane, Melbourne and Auckland also!

I picked up a few nice fabrics that I plan to transform into some tops, skirts and pyjama pants, given the time. I tested out my very new, sewing skills on some other fabric and managed to pull off a top, albeit the sleeves are a little tight!

Today I launched the new website for Cafe Salina, an amazing café on Bronte Rd, Bronte with a spectacular view of the beach. Eivind and I had breakfast there on Saturday morning and it was terrific. The food, service, view – everything about the place was just so relaxed and the perfect way to start a weekend and just what we needed after a busy start to 2012!

The website I designed and developed for Hannah at Cafe Salina is a simple, friendly design that shows off the best of the café and their catering services in a relaxed, easy-to-navigate layout. The site is built on a content management system so Hannah can update menus and catering information as well as change any text or photos as she pleases without the knowledge of any code.

It was a great project to begin the new year with and it’s definitely got me back in the swing of things!

“Thank you for all your work on it – I really love it..addressed the brief perfectly. Simple, elegant, stylish but not pretentious.”
